Today I'm in Caaguazu with Wilian to learn about Paraguayan harp and to see how the program works in the community. I was so impressed with how eager the kids were to play and join in when they recognized a song someone was playing - which was pretty much every song. I sat in on the advanced harp class, right between the kids playing on either side of me. Paraguayan polcas and guaranias are lively songs with really interesting combinations of rhythms, textures, muffling, and variations of the melody. It was really fun to have the opportunity to speak with, smile with, and play music with my fellow guy and girl harpists.
....Haha! The harpists back home would've loved (or been frightened) to see the students catching rides home on the back of a motorcycle with their harps in between themselves and the driver. ---Jazzy
